Appreciating inspiring Women within our Industry
In celebration of International Women’s Day this year, Google has launched a new Doodle sharing the dreams held by women and girls across the globe. When the graphic is clicked there is a video called “International Women’s Day Doodle 2016: #OneDayIWill.” The video showcases more than 330 women and girls across 13 countries and asks them to finish the sentence “One day I will…”
As a predominately female company The White T-shirt Co is very conscious of the women, throughout our supply chain, that are involved in making our organic cotton t-shirts. All our t-shirts are GOTS certified which demonstrates we take our social responsibilities very seriously. So to mark this day of gratitude, International Women’s Day, we take a look at some amazing women whose campaigning is making social responsibility main stream. Women who have made a real difference to the lives and working conditions of textile workers throughout the world. Giving many women, within the industries supply chain, their first opportunity to say “One day I will...
Livia Firth
Starting with a more well known face in the industry, Livia Firth, someone we all admire at The White T-Shirt Company. Livia has changed the way consumers and many designers look at fast fashion and the impact that it has overall. Creating her own campaigns such as the Green Carpet challenge and #30wears, she creates awareness in everything that she preaches. She has worked with major designers such as Gucci, Tom Ford, Victoria Beckham and most recently collaborated with Marks & Spencer to promote High Street ethical ready to wear. Livia is the Creative Director at her consultancy Eco-Age.
Safia Minney
Safia Minney is founder and CEO of People Tree, a Fair Trade fashion label and online retailer. She initiated World Fair Trade Day over ten years ago, and sees people and the planet central to everything they do as a business. Safia’s DNA is rooted in campaigning for a better trading system that delivers human rights and environmental innovation in production. People Tree were the first company to have certified clothing made in the developing world and continues to be deeply committed to empowering the poor, protecting the environment and changing the kind of world we live in.

Summer Rayne Oakes
Summer Rayne Oakes has not only put her creative thinking into the sustainable fashion industry but has also influenced the beauty industry too. Not just a creative mind her endless beauty has landed her many top notch modelling jobs. She is an environmental activist and her work has been featured in many media outlets- she has authored the best-selling book ‘Style Naturally’. Summer is an icon in our eyes as she successfully exhibits that sustainable fashion can be compelling and iconic.
These women are only a drop in the ocean to the many that engage with ethical fashion and have had a huge impact on the fashion industry. They have not only practiced their own beliefs but have committed to transmitting this through the media and their own creations to influence and inspire us - and we are truly grateful for their hard work.
